Special Event Goal : To build mental health resilience and leadership capabilities in displaced youth to address Myanmar's leadership succession planning crisis

  • Date: 9/26/2023 11:30 PM - 9/28/2023 03:00 PM
  • Location Myanmar (Burma) (Map)

Description

Special Three Day Workshop (Not open to Public informational purpose only)

Why is this important?

Objective 1: Provide basic psychological first aid training to 500 displaced youth in IDP camps by end of 2023. This will build capacity for psycho-social support at low cost relative to benefits. The UNICEF report shows psychological first aid has a high benefit-cost ratio, giving good value for money.

Objective 2: Incorporate leadership development modules into the training curriculum. This will empower youth to become change agents and future leaders. The UNICEF report highlights the long-term economic benefits of improved mental health and education.

Objective 3: Evaluate wellbeing and leadership outcomes for training participants over 2 years. Monitoring results will help demonstrate the benefits and support continued funding based on evidence. The UNICEF report methodology can inform an impact evaluation approach.

Overall, by investing in displaced youth mental health and leadership, this initiative will help address the succession planning crisis in Myanmar in line with Sone Yay's mission. The expected high return on investment is supported by UNICEF's global cost-benefit analysis.

Call to Action:

We call on donors and partners to support this critical mental health and leadership development program for displaced youth in Myanmar. This initiative aligns directly with Sone Yay's mission to inspire hope and ignite change by empowering the underserved.

By providing psychological first aid training and leadership skills to youth in IDP camps, we can foster the next generation of healthy, resilient leaders devoted to justice and equality in Myanmar. This will help fill the current succession planning crisis exacerbated by the revolution.

The expected high return on investment is backed by UNICEF's extensive research showing the long-term economic and social benefits of improved mental health interventions in education settings.

We have a timely opportunity to change the trajectory for displaced youth and the future of Myanmar by funding this mental health and leadership initiative. We urge donors to invest in this program as an impactful way to advance Sone Yay's mission of empowering the underserved to create lasting, equitable change.

The time to act is now - please join us in healing Myanmar's youth and igniting hope for the future.
